“PUBLIC HEALTH - HEALTH PROFESSIONS MODEL PROGRAM DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS”
Details on Submission Process, deadline 5:00p.m., August 31, 2009 via e-mail to sclassen@phhp.ufl.edu
Over the past five years, the College of Public Health and Health Professions has embraced an educational model that incorporates public health and the health professions into a special collaborative partnership. This innovative model posits (a) that insights gained from treatment of the individual may provide an important understanding of the health needs of the community and the general population and (b) that knowledge gained from studying the health of communities and populations increases our understanding of what needs to be addressed in the care of the individual.
As a step toward fostering the implementation of an educational model that incorporates public health and the health professions into a special collaborative partnership, the College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) will fund demonstration projects that are multidisciplinary and demonstrate the unique benefits of collaborative efforts between faculty in “public health” and “health professions.” We expect to fund at least one in Summer 2009 and another in Fall 2009; however, the total number will depend on the number and quality of application received, and the amount of funds requested and being available.
Proposed projects should be innovative and should support the mission and goals of the College. Proposals may target demonstration projects within the domains of research, education, or service (or combinations thereof). The projects should be designed to produce data that will serve as the basis for subsequent externally-funded projects.
The awards are designed to support new ideas (projects) and/or new collaborative partnerships (rather than existing ones). To be competitive, proposals must be multidisciplinary and must involve faculty from at least two departments or units within PHHP, with one representing a “public health” discipline and the other a “health professions” discipline.
Proposed projects should include a plan for future funding by alternative external mechanisms (e.g., NIH, CDC, AHEC, ACS, AHA, etc).
